PHASE 1 CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE!!
In 2007, a group of dedicated parents recognized the need to address the field shortage in Central Oregon. They volunteered their time and talents to explore options on how the Club could build fields for our players and a growing sports community. Through the hard work of these parents and the club’s ongoing efforts to ensure the success of this project, we did it! After 1000 planning hours, approximately 400 meetings, and with the help and support of over 200+ people, we are proud to say we have completed the installation of turf, lights, and fencing for Phase 1. Fields opened for play on January 6! While we still have some construction work to complete, we recognize the fulfillment of this dream would not have been possible without the help and support of volunteers, field project partners, investors, sponsors, board, staff, and our awesome soccer community.
How does this impact soccer and our community? First off, our existing soccer programming with our stellar coaches will continue while significantly minimizing the issues of field scheduling or spring practices being canceled, as in years past. Dedicated turf fields also give our players the competitive advantage of turf practice and the opportunity to start training for spring games as early as January. We are also excited to offer new opportunities including advanced technical training, Friday Night futbol, adult 7 x 7 leagues, advanced summer camps, and college ID camps...these are just a few of our programming plans you’ll hear more about soon. This all-season sports facility will not only benefit Bend FC Timbers and the soccer community but will positively impact other youth athletics and adult athletic programming in Central Oregon for many years to come.
To further support the sports complex, BFCT has unveiled a brick program that allows families and community members to engage with the project and leave a lasting legacy of support. There are also ongoing fundraising and business sponsorship opportunities to support the full scope of Phase 1 and Phase 2 (fields 3 and 4). The Build It Forward Campaign is a 10-year project to transform 8 acres of Bend Park & Recreation’s Pine Nursery Community Park into a world-class, all-season, athletic facility.
• Phase I, COMPLETED! - field design and engineering, site work construction, build 2 synthetic turf fields, purchase goal/field equipment, install outdoor lighting, and fencing.
• Phase II & III, 2021-2025 construct the remaining 2 synthetic turf fields, landscaping, fencing, lights, and misc. infrastructure.
More than 3,000 Central Oregon boys and girls participate in competitive and recreational soccer programs through Bend FC Timbers. Currently, our competitive team games are being played in Redmond, as a result, we are turning kids and tournaments away due to a lack of capacity for playing fields in Bend. During major stretches of the year, there is virtually no usable space due to weather and a lack of light for our kids. As a result, a group of dedicated volunteers formed the Build It Forward Capital Campaign, a strategic partnership between Bend FC Timbers and Bend Park and Recreation. To better serve our growing community, the Campaign is an investment in our economy, and it will allow more children and adults to be active in healthy, outdoor team sports.
World-class sporting events fuel vibrant economies. Hosting tournaments and training on state-of-the-art all-season athletic fields will draw visitors from Oregon and other states to experience all that Central Oregon has to offer. So the opportunity to create something that is a consistent engine of economic activity – much like the Bend Whitewater Park & Colorado Dam Safe Passage and The Pavilion, which are other examples of this creative public/private partnership model with Bend Parks & Recreation District.
Your gift will directly fund the construction of four synthetic turf fields, provide our youth with a safe, year-round place to learn and develop as athletes, and host tournaments to boost the local economy. Kids want to play soccer and we want to provide them a home in which to train and compete year-round. We are committed to this field project and our growing sports community.
