Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Policy

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy

Our Commitment

Bend FC is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants. In alignment with Oregon law, Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA), US Club Soccer, and Girls Academy Aspire standards, we strive to ensure that every player, family member, coach, referee, volunteer, and staff member is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.

We believe soccer is a powerful tool for growth, connection, and leadership, and that every child deserves the opportunity to participate and thrive—on and off the field.

Diversity

Bend FC values and respects the diversity of our community. We do not discriminate on the basis of any legally protected characteristic under Oregon or federal law, including but not limited to:

  • Race, color, or ethnicity
  • National origin, ancestry, language, or immigration status
  • Sex, gender, gender identity, or gender expression
  • Sexual orientation
  • Physical, intellectual, or developmental disability
  • Religion or belief
  • Age
  • Socioeconomic status
  • Family or marital status

We recognize that diverse backgrounds and perspectives strengthen our club and enhance the experience for all participants.

Equity

Equity means ensuring fair access to opportunities and resources by acknowledging that individuals may have different needs or barriers to participation.

Bend FC is committed to:

  • Providing fair and transparent access to programs, teams, and player development pathways
  • Striving to reduce financial and structural barriers to participation when possible
  • Applying policies, evaluations, and discipline consistently and objectively
  • Making reasonable efforts to accommodate individual needs in compliance with applicable laws and governing-body standards

Our goal is to support each participant’s ability to succeed while maintaining the integrity of our programs.

Inclusion and Safe Participation

Inclusion is an active, ongoing practice. We are committed to maintaining an environment where all participants:

  • Feel safe, supported, and respected
  • Are free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, hazing, or abuse
  • Can participate fully and authentically
  • Are treated in accordance with youth-centered and trauma-informed principles

This commitment applies to all club activities, including practices, games, travel, meetings, electronic communications, and social media.

Alignment with Governing Bodies and Law

This policy aligns with and supports compliance with:

  • Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) policies and codes of conduct
  • US Club Soccer and Girls Academy Aspire standards
  • U.S. Soccer Federation SafeSport requirements
  • Oregon state and applicable federal nondiscrimination laws

All coaches, staff, and volunteers are required to complete applicable background checks and SafeSport or equivalent training, as mandated by our governing organizations.

Expectations and Accountability

All members of the Bend FC community—including players, parents/guardians, coaches, staff, and volunteers—are expected to:

  • Demonstrate respect, sportsmanship, and integrity
  • Use inclusive and age-appropriate language and behavior
  • Refrain from discriminatory, harassing, or retaliatory conduct
  • Support the club’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Conduct that violates this policy may result in corrective action, up to and including suspension or removal from club participation, consistent with club policies and governing-body procedures.

Reporting Concerns

Bend FC encourages prompt reporting of behavior that is inconsistent with this policy or that may violate SafeSport or other applicable standards.

Reports may be made to club leadership or through required reporting channels established by OYSA, US Club Soccer, or the U.S. Center for SafeSport, as applicable.

Reports will be taken seriously and handled respectfully. Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith is strictly prohibited.

Education and Continuous Improvement

We are committed to ongoing learning and accountability. Bend FC will:

  • Provide education and guidance on inclusive and respectful conduct
  • Listen to feedback from players and families
  • Periodically review and update policies to reflect best practices and evolving standards
  • Promote open, respectful dialogue grounded in shared responsibility

Our Shared Responsibility

Creating an inclusive soccer community is a shared responsibility. By participating in Bend FC programs, each member of our community agrees to uphold the values and expectations outlined in this policy and to contribute to an environment where every child can learn, compete, and grow.
