Bend FC's competitive programs operate on a soccer year that begins each year in May with tryouts and ends the following April. Our competitive programs follow our five-phase pyramid and are designed to develop and improve soccer skills, teamwork, positive habits, and work ethic. We offer competitive programs for players from ages 6-19, with differing degrees of commitment and expectations as they advance through each level. These programs are carefully designed for players who are motivated to improve, regularly attend training and games, are open and willing to learn from coaches, and love playing the game.
Bend FC prides itself on its committed, high-level, professionally licensed, coaching staff and directors. Coaches will focus on teaching and encouraging individual skills, individual and team tactics, good training habits, commitment to the sport and how to compete at a high level. Coaches will be more demanding at the competitive soccer level than at the recreational level, with the goal of bringing out the best in each player through hard work in a positive and encouraging environment. The club supports its coaching staff by offering opportunities to participate in continuing coaching education and experiences.
Competitive teams in phases three through five have structured training sessions two to three times per week, nine to twelve months of the year depending on the level of the team. They will train both outdoors at our Bend FC Soccer Complex and indoors at our new futsal facility. Training will be more specific, more demanding, and more structured than recreational team training. Competitive soccer is a big time commitment in terms of the number of practices, games, and travel. All teams will have to travel outside of Bend, typically to the Portland metro area and/or to the Central Valley area (Eugene/Salem/Medford). Families will travel multiple weekends per season, with overnight stays often required. Training, games, and travel are not optional and are the expectation for all competitive players and teams.
